WHO IS YOUR MASTER?

MATTHEW 6:24 NIV

Tap to read full chapter

There are only two masters in this world, and referring to the two masters, Jesus did not say you can't serve God and Satan — that's what many think. Rather, Jesus said God and money - "No one can serve two masters...You cannot serve both God and money" (Matthew 6:24 NIV). Most people are under the influence of money, and that is not what God wants.

Money influences all their decisions. Money controls them. Money has become their god. They always think about money. Even because of money, they can't serve God the way they should. As the Bible says, "for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also" (Matthew 6:21). There are certain things they should have done, but when they look at their pocket, the money is not enough. They don't reason the way they should because their focus is on money rather than God. Their pocket is so small, yet it determines how big they think and what they do.

Some people serve money. Why? There are people — there are things they should not have done — but because they have the money to do it, they do it. Money controls them. Money controls poor people. Money controls rich people. A man doesn't have to have money for it to control him. The Bible warns us, "...the love of money is the root of all evil..." (1 Timothy 6:10). Money is just a spirit. Money controls all their thoughts. Money determines what they want to have. Simply put, money controls them.

Listen, money is a spirit, and money is a master. It's either you are under the influence of money or under the influence of God. You cannot know how to relate with money until you learn the Word of God. Because God has made money, you must learn how to relate with it correctly. Romans 12:2 (NIV) says, "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind...", so your understanding and use of money should be shaped by God, not by the world. Learn about money from the Bible. Don't learn about money from what people say about it, but always measure it by God's Word.

Choose today to break free from the control of money and let God become your only Master. Let His Word guide your thoughts, your actions, and your use of money. When God influences your decisions, money will no longer dictate your dreams or control your mind. Live every day under God's influence, letting His Spirit direct how you give, save, and spend — that is true freedom.

Confession & Prayer

"Dear Father, thank You for teaching me that money is not my master. I declare that I am under the influence of God and not under the control of money. I use money as a servant for Your kingdom and not as my guide for decisions. My life is led by Your Word, and I am free from the spirit of mammon, in Jesus' name. Amen."
