Many Christians are not where they should be with God because they don't know that God is a person. A lot of times, we relate with Him as though He is not. But God has feelings — real emotions. He is a person, not a computer.
He can feel pain, for the Bible says, "The LORD regretted... and his heart was deeply troubled" (Genesis 6:6 NIV). He can laugh, as the Bible says, "He who sits in the heavens laughs..." (Psalm 2:4 ESV). He can rejoice, for the Bible reveals, "The LORD your God... will rejoice over you with gladness..." (Zephaniah 3:17 NKJV). He can be angry, as the Scriptures say, "God is a just judge... angry with the wicked every day" (Psalm 7:11 NKJV). And He can feel sorrow, the Bible says some people "...grieved His Holy Spirit..." (Isaiah 63:10 NKJV).
Yet sometimes, we act as though God does not think. We even try to think for Him. But the reason you can think is because God thinks — you were made in His image. The Bible says, "...God said, Let us make man in our image..." (Genesis 1:26). He created you to think like Him and to live like Him.
If you want to know what God is like, just look at yourself. God has hands and eyes; He thinks like you do. Jesus confirmed this when He said, "...Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father..." (John 14:9 NLT). Jesus is exactly like the Father, and when He came, He was just like us. The Bible even records that "Jesus wept" (John 11:35); He felt pain just as we do.
That is why we are told, "...do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God [do not offend or vex or sadden Him], by Whom you were sealed (marked, branded as God's own, secured)..." (Ephesians 4:30 AMPC). Don't offend Him or sadden Him. There is a way to live that makes God happy because He is a person with feelings. There are things He expects from you that can lift you higher in life and help you enjoy the bigger things He has prepared for you. The Bible says, "No eye has seen, no ear has heard... what God has prepared for those who love him." (1 Corinthians 2:9). But when you live carelessly, you shut yourself out from these blessings.
Remember, you are marked as God's own, sealed by the Holy Spirit and secured for the day of redemption. This means your life is not ordinary. There is a way to live that pleases Him, a way to walk that honours Him. The question is, are you living conscious of what He wants you to do?
Today, make the choice to live in a way that makes God glad. Let your words, actions, and decisions show that you know He is a person who loves you deeply and desires fellowship with you. Choose to honour Him daily by yielding to His Spirit. This is how you step into the higher life He has prepared for you.
