THE IMPORTANCE OF PATIENCE

Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, - HEBREWS 12:1

In Christianity, faith and patience are essential for spiritual growth and for developing a mature relationship with God and others. Faith is the assurance that God's truth is real, while patience is the endurance to grow in one's relationship with God and prove that one's faith is genuine. The Bible encourages us, saying, "That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through FAITH and PATIENCE inherit the promises" (Hebrews 6:12). We only grow in this kingdom and obtain promises through faith and patience. The trial of your faith gives patience the opportunity to grow. This means that we don't only grow our faith; we also grow our patience. However, this is where many of us face challenges—we lack patience. James 1:2- 4 reminds us of the importance of trials in producing patience: "My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that THE TRYING OF YOUR FAITH WORKETH PATIENCE. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing." These verses reveal that patience is not an option but a necessity. It is patience that separates the mature from the babes in Christ.

Spiritual babes struggle with patience. They may have faith for instant results, but they lack the enduring faith of Abraham who waited on God's promises. This lack of patience often leads them to give up too quickly—walking away from people, places, and positions. Such actions are born out of impatience and hinder spiritual growth. As believers, we need Christ- like strength to persevere in spite of disappointment, frustration, or obstacles. The term "patience" is often translated as perseverance or endurance in recent Bible translations, but the meaning remains the same. We are to run and continue running, completing the task (the race) that is set before us. Many fail to stay on course because they lack the endurance to persevere.

Hebrews 12:1 urges us to adopt this mindset: "Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and LET US RUN WITH PATIENCE THE RACE". Running with patience is not the same as waiting patiently. Waiting implies standing still, while running implies moving forward. To run with patience is challenging, especially when the journey is difficult. However, the strength to persevere is granted to those who trust in God's promises and allow patience to have its perfect work.

Let us, therefore, lay aside every weight and hindrance, and with patience, run the race God has placed before us. Trust that He who began a good work in you will complete it. Stay the course and endure, knowing that your faith and patience will yield eternal rewards.

Confession & Prayer

"Dear Father, thank you for teaching me the importance of patience. I trust that you who started a good work in my life will complete it. I choose to run with patience the race you have set before me, relying on your grace and trusting in your promises, in Jesus' name. Amen."
