One of the battles Christians often face is the battle of the mind. Your mind is a battleground where thoughts and opinions wage war. Every day, people speak into your life, and your own mind can attempt to deceive you. Take Peter, for instance: when he walked on water, it wasn't external voices that caused him to sink, it was his mind interpreting the situation as dangerous. The Bible says, "But when he realized how high the waves were, he became frightened and started to sink..." (Matthew 14:30 TPT). The moment he saw the waves, his mind interpreted a dangerous situation, then he became frightened and began to sink.
This scenario is a reflection of our own experiences. When God's Word is not firmly rooted in our hearts, we are prone to misinterpreting situations and circumstances, leading to doubt in God's promises. The key to victory is allowing God's Word to be the primary influence in your life. Without His Word residing in you, external factors such as challenges, pressures, or distractions can easily take root and affect your faith. Just as Peter faced doubts when he shifted his focus, the words and opinions of others can gain power over us only when God's Word isn't established in our hearts. Therefore, we must stand firm in the Word of God, which acts as a shield against all forms of doubt and attack.
Your thoughts can create circumstances in your life. If you dwell on negative thoughts long enough, they can become your reality. Many people try to fight their negative thoughts with positive thinking, but this is ineffective. You cannot fight thoughts with thoughts. You fight thoughts with words. Have you noticed that your mind and mouth don't work simultaneously? If you're deep in thought and someone asks you a question, you must stop thinking to respond. Similarly, when your mind is overwhelmed with negativity, open your mouth and speak the Word of God. Words have power over the mind. When you speak, your mind must stop to listen.
If your thoughts are driving you in the wrong direction, speak the direction you want to go. Say, "I am victorious in Christ. I walk in power, love, and a sound mind". The moment you start speaking, your mind quiets down. Many don't know this secret. They sit in silence, drowning in negative thoughts, thinking they're praying or believing in their hearts, yet their situations worsen. Don't underestimate the power of your words. Your mind can picture fear, failure, or even death. But when your mind begins to wander in the wrong direction, interrupt it with words of faith. Say what you want to see, not what you fear.
Whatever you face today, put your faith to work through the power of your words.
