There are certain people the Word of God will never work for- those who don't believe the Word. Our opening scripture says, "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that BELIEVETH..." (Romans 1:16). The scripture emphasizes that the power is for those who believe, not just those who have needs. The Word of God does not work because you have a need; it works because you believe. The Word of God is not merely a carrier of God's power; it is the power of God. God doesn't have power outside His Word. This is why He cannot help a man who does not believe His Word.
Consider the story in Mark 5:36- 40, where a man lost his daughter. Jesus said to him, "...Be not afraid, only believe". He didn't tell him to pray or cry; He simply said, "Believe, and your daughter will live again". If the man's faith didn't matter, Jesus wouldn't have asked him to believe. But the man's faith counted, just as yours does today. When Jesus arrived at the man's house, He found people wailing and crying. The first thing Jesus did was to drive out the unbelievers, leaving only the child's father and His disciples. Why? Because the Word of God only works in an environment of faith. Jesus didn't just go ahead and perform the miracle; He required faith. If the man's faith didn't matter, Jesus would have raised the girl without saying a word. But the man's belief was crucial to the miracle.
Similarly, God's power is in you and on you, but He needs your faith to work. Faith is the currency that activates His power. Understand this: tears and suffering do not move God. Pity already moved Him 2,000 years ago when He sent Jesus to die for the world. Today, what moves Him is faith. Hebrews 11:6 declares, "But without faith it is impossible to please him..". You must build your faith. Your needs, no matter how dire, cannot activate God's power—only faith can. Crying, wailing, or even fasting without faith will not produce results. Faith is not a reaction to problems, it is a firm belief in what God has said, regardless of circumstances.
So what are you going to do? Put God's Word consciously into your heart. The Bible says, "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God" (Romans 10:17). Your faith grows to the level of God's Word that's in you. Constantly feed on the Word because as you do, your faith gets bigger.
