BUILD CHARACTER ABOVE CHARISMA

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law - GALATIANS 5:22–23

One thing people need to realize is that character is more important than charisma. What is charisma? You may ask. Charisma refers to your gift—the gift of the Spirit in your life. But your character will keep you longer than your charisma ever could.

The Bible says, “A man's gift maketh room for him, And bringeth him before great men” (Proverbs 18:16). Your gift can bring you up, but only your character can keep you there. Character is more important than a gift. I repeat, your character is more important than your charisma.

There is no man in the Bible whom God ever condemned because of spiritual weakness. Hear me well: God has never condemned any man because of prayerlessness or lack of spiritual manifestation. Yet, we have many examples of those who were excellent in their gifts but destroyed because they failed in character.

This is why the Bible says, “Pride goeth before destruction, And an haughty spirit before a fall” (Proverbs 16:18). It is not the absence of gifts that ruins a man, but the corruption of character. Your gift may open doors, but only humility and a good attitude will keep them open.

Building character means allowing the Holy Spirit to shape your daily life. It means learning to show respect, keeping your word, being honest, honouring others, showing humility, and treating people right. Character shows in how you talk to others, how you behave under pressure, and how you act when no one is watching. That's what God looks at—who you are on the inside.

The Bible says, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,” (Galatians 5:22). The fruit of the Spirit isn't just about love—it represents every part of godly character. It teaches you to be kind, patient, gentle, and disciplined. These qualities don't come from outside; they grow from within as you walk with God.

So I ask you, do you show kindness, respect, patience, and humility in your life? If not, begin to develop them. Just like a tree produces its own fruit, your spirit produces good character when you stay connected to God. Build strength from within.

The Bible says, “He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; And he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city” (Proverbs 16:32). A man who can control his emotions and stay calm is stronger than a warrior.

So, are you kind or careless? Respectful or rude? Humble or proud? The Bible says, “…clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience” (Colossians 3:12 NIV). Your gift will not sustain you—your character will.

Build character above charisma. Let humility, patience, honesty, and love grow in you. Walk in kindness. Show respect and honour to others. Be gentle in speech and pure in heart. Don't just be gifted; be godly. Don't just be known for charisma; be known for character. That is what keeps you standing before God and men.

Confession & Prayer

"Father, I thank You because the fruit of the Spirit is in me. By Your Word and Your Spirit, I choose to develop love, patience, humility, kindness, and self-control. My character will uphold my calling, and my life will reflect Your goodness, in Jesus' name. Amen."
