DON'T FOCUS ON MONEY

For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows - 1 TIMOTHY 6:10

The Bible in our opening scripture says, "...the love of money is the root of all evil..." (1 Timothy 6:10).

Notice it didn't say money is the root of evil—it said the love of it. When money becomes your god or master, evil begins to take root. Even if you weren't evil before, that love for money will soon corrupt your heart. Jesus said, "No one can serve two masters... You cannot serve both God and money" (Matthew 6:24 NIV).

So, what must you do? Don't fix your heart on money. Fix your heart on God. You are not alive to pursue money; you are alive to serve God. Many people constantly think about money—how to get more, make more, and keep more. But that shouldn't be your focus. Let the thought of knowing, loving and serving God replace that thought of money. Think about how to please Him, how to serve Him, and how to use whatever you have for His glory. In this way, whenever you get money, the money will serve God's purpose, and not taking you away from Him.

The Bible says, "Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth" (Colossians 3:2). When your heart is set on God, your priorities will align with His will, and your life will be balanced.

You have to understand that God doesn't have a problem with you having money. In fact, He wants you to have a lot of it. The Bible says, "...The Lord... delights in the prosperity of His servant" (Psalm 35:27 TPT). The lie many have believed is that being righteous makes you poor. But righteousness has nothing to do with money. You can be rich and righteous, or poor and righteous; righteousness is a matter of the heart, not wealth.

The Bible again warns, "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil... which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows” (1 Timothy 6:10). These were people who once served God faithfully and were committed to Christ. But as they began to chase after money, their hearts drifted from the faith, and they pierced themselves with many sorrows. Jesus warned, “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” (Mark 8:36).

Keep your eyes fixed on God. Let Him be your focus, not money. When your goal is to please God, everything else—including money—will fall into the right place. Don't let the pursuit of wealth steal your peace or your place in God's plan. Serve Him with a pure heart, and let your wealth, when it comes, serve His purpose.

Confession & Prayer

"Dear Father, thank You for teaching me to set my heart on You and not on money. My purpose is to serve You and bring glory to Your name. I declare that my wealth will serve Your Kingdom and never take Your place in my heart, in Jesus' name. Amen."
