WATCH YOUR WORDS

But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. - MATTHEW 12:36 NIV

You see, your greatest asset in life are your words. With words, God created the universe. Jesus never said that you will give account of your on the day of judgement. But "...that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken” (Matthew 12:36 NIV).

There's a way I can talk to an armed robber, and he'll joyfully drop his gun. I can talk to a prostitute, and she'll gladly give her heart to Christ—without calling her a prostitute. That's the power of gracious speech.

This is why God can't use many people—because they don't know how to talk. Jesus said, "...every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment” (Matthew 12:36). Words matter. They carry life or death. The Bible says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue...” (Proverbs 18:21). Don't use careless, harsh, or hurtful words.

Peter also instructed, “For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:” (1 Peter 3:10). Do you want to enjoy life? Then watch your words. Those who lie can never prosper. God hates a lying tongue and deceitful speech. You cannot live in deception and expect the Holy Spirit to guide you.

Some people enjoy life because they have mastered the discipline of speaking right. As The Passion Translation puts it, "...Whoever wants to embrace true life and find beauty in each day must stop speaking evil, hurtful words and never deceive in what they say..." (1 Peter 3:10-11). This means good life begins with what you say with your mouth.

So, what should you do? Be intentional about your speech. Let your words strengthen, comfort, and uplift. Speak kind words to your children, spouse, friends, co-workers, and church members. Refuse to insult, mock, or tear others down. You are called to be a comforter and an encourager. Even in your home, create an atmosphere of peace—a haven where kind words flow freely.

Remember, whenever you speak, someone is expressing themselves through you—either God or Satan. Even Peter once spoke words influenced by Satan without realizing it. That's why you must fill your heart with God's Word and yield your tongue to the Holy Spirit. Until He controls your words, your ministry and influence will remain limited.

Choose today to let Jesus speak through you. Make your words a fountain of grace that builds and blesses others. Soon, the same words that strengthen one person will open doors for you globally—because the world is drawn to voices that heal and give life.

Confession & Prayer

"Thank You, Lord, for teaching me the power of words. I choose today to speak words of life, grace, and kindness. I refuse to lie or use my tongue for evil. Fill my mouth with Your words so that I may edify and strengthen others every day, in Jesus' name. Amen."
