The Word of God is more than literature; the Word of God is light. As the Psalmist said, “Your word is a lamp to guide me and a light for my path” (Psalm 119:105 GNT). One of the most important things in this life is light. Think about it—how would you describe light? Light is one of the most difficult things to define or explain. How would you describe light to a blind man? What would you tell him light is? It's difficult to describe light because light itself is what describes things.
You wouldn't know the colour of your clothes right now if there were no light. In darkness, everyone looks the same. When the light shines, it describes each person and reveals what is there. Light enables us to see; no matter how wide you open your eyes in darkness, you cannot see anything. It takes more than eyes to see; light reveals and describes.
There are many lights in this world. There's x-ray light, white light, ultraviolet light—different kinds of light. The white light can show your body and your clothes, but if you want to see your bones or kidneys, you need another kind of light. That's a higher kind of light. But there is a light greater than all: the light of the Word of God. The Bible says, “The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple” (Psalm 119:130). Only the Word of God reveals spiritual realities. That something is spiritual doesn't mean it's not real.
Is God real? Yes. Have you seen Him? No. But you believe because the Word reveals Him. What about the Devil? Is there a real Devil? Yes, but you've never seen him either. Yet, you know he exists. How? Because of the Word. The light of science doesn't reveal him. There's no subject in school that ever suggests you are a spirit being—physics, biology, chemistry, geography—none teaches you about God or the Devil. Why? Because the light of science cannot see them. Satan is not real to science. Only the light of the Word reveals him.
The Bible says, “All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made” (John 1:3). The Word made everything. The Word carries life: “…and that life [is] the light of men” (John 1:4 SBA). The Word enables us to see and understand life. Without it, we are like blind men in darkness, struggling not because life is hard, but because we cannot see.
Its only the Word of God that reveals Satan to you, reveals your spirit to you, and reveals God to you, doesn't that suggest that there are many things about your life that only the Word can reveal? Why then live an ordinary life? The Word of God is the true light. With the Word, you shall not go astray; you shall see clearly. Choose today to let only the Word of God reveal things to you. In so doing, you will never walk in darkness, but will walk in the light of life. Glory to God!
