The Bible in our opening scripture says, "Don't change yourself to be like the people of this world, but let God change you inside with a new way of thinking..." (Romans 12:2 ERV). After you are born again, there's a new way of thinking you ought to adopt. Our values and the way we see life become different. You suddenly realize what used to excite you doesn't excite you anymore. What you used to count as valuable has lost its value.
It says, "...let God change you..." (Romans 12:2 ERV). Don't change yourself to be like the people of this world, but let God change you inside with a new way of thinking. The New Living Translation puts it this way: "Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think..." (Romans 12:2 NLT).
And how does God do that? By His Word. The Bible says, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction..." (2 Timothy 3:16). This is why we study the Word of God—it changes our thinking and reshapes our lives. God's Word trains, renews, and transforms us from within. The transformation comes as our minds are renewed by the truth of His Word.
So, let God transform you into a new person—not by prayer alone, but by changing the way you think. The Bible says, "...be renewed in the spirit of your mind;" (Ephesians 4:23). Changing the way you think brings transformation to your life. It shifts your focus from worldly standards to divine realities.
Let's take an example from Apostle Paul in Philippians 3:7- 8. Don't forget, Paul was an accomplished man. Before he came to Christ, he was a lawyer and a scholar. Yet he said, "...what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ" (Philippians 3:7). In verse 4, Paul listed his impressive credentials—his heritage, his discipline, his zeal, and his righteousness according to the law—but after encountering Christ, all those things lost their meaning. He said, "...I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus..." (Philippians 3:8).
That's the new way of thinking—the mind that has been renewed by God's Word. When you begin to value Christ above all else, transformation has begun. You no longer measure your worth by worldly achievements, but by your growth in the knowledge of Christ. This is the life God wants for every believer—a life where His Word reshapes our thoughts, renews our values, and transforms our desires.
Now that you know the Word is God's tool for transformation, make it your daily habit to meditate on it. Let the Word dwell richly in you, guiding your thoughts, your choices, and your actions. As you do, your life will reflect the glory of God, and others will see the change in you. Transformation begins when you let the Word take over your mind.
