The most important message in the church today is the message of the Holy Spirit. God is not pleased with a church that doesn't truly know Him. The Holy Spirit made Jesus who He was. There is no record of any miracle performed by Jesus until He received the Holy Spirit. The Bible says, "...God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good..." (Acts 10:38).
The Holy Spirit is not for a few people—it is for all believers. If you don't know what you have, you cannot function in His fullness. Jesus said, "...I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter..." (John 14:16).
Here is something remarkable about the word "another" as used in the opening scripture. The Greek has two words which are translated as another in the English Bible. One is "ethern" meaning another of a different kind. The second is "allos" meaning another of the same kind. Jesus used allos—another Comforter, just like Himself. This Spirit loves like Him, prays like Him, comforts like Him, and does everything like Jesus —you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
The Holy Spirit is exactly like Jesus. The only difference is that the Spirit does not have a physical body. Your body is His body, and He lives in you with all His power and glory. Imagine sitting in your room, and Jesus Himself suddenly walks in and stays inside you. Who wouldn't want that? Isn't it wonderful to have Him as a friend that you can speak to everyday?
There are people searching for love, looking for acceptance. If the love of God does not change you, nothing else will. No one loves like Jesus. Look at His disciples—married men who abandoned everything to follow Him. Jesus did not just show love; He was love Himself. The Bible says, "...God is love" (1 John 4:8 SBA). Imagine living every day in the presence of Love. The disciples could not live without Him. When Jesus told them He was going back, they were heartbroken. John, who was closest to Jesus, rested his head on His legs; he wanted to be close to Jesus.
But God had a better plan: which is for Jesus to live inside us, not outside, so we would never miss Him. He said He would give you allos—another of the same kind, the same quality, the same power. Jesus Himself. Another Comforter. And the word "Comforter" means Parakletus, a Greek word with several synonyms: Strengthener, Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Standby. This is who the Holy Spirit is. When Jesus was here, He was the Counselor, the Helper, the Intercessor, the Advocate, the Strengthener, and the Standby. The Bible says "the dwelleth with you, and shall be in you" (John 14:17). Jesus Himself in the person of the Holy Spirit is in you. When you know Him, you will walk in the right paths, make the right decisions, and fulfill your purpose. Receive Him and fellowship with Him daily. Let Him live, love, and guide you from within.
