The Bible in our opening scripture says, “No one can serve two masters for either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money,” (Matthew 6:24 NIV) Jesus didn’t say you cannot serve God and the Devil. There are two masters in this world—firstly, God Almighty, and secondly, money. After God is money. According to the Bible, after the power of God in this world is the power of money.
So money is not something God takes lightly, because money itself is a master. It’s either you are worshipping God or you are worshipping money. It’s either you fear God or you fear money. It’s either money influences all your decisions or God does. Not the Devil—it’s money. And that is the reason there is so much contention about money matters. Nothing competes with God in a man's life more than money.
Money is a spirit. That’s why you should know God before you get money. Because when you have money before you know God, you may never know God again, for the Bible says, “…the love of money is the root of all evil…,” (1 Timothy 6:10). A lot of money without God will not let you know God, money is a god—it is a master. You cannot worship God and money; you can only worship God with money.
This is the reason God stirs us to give sacrificially sometimes, He wants to know who your real boss IS God or money. You will struggle and find it difficult to give substantially or sacrificially when your trust and security is in your bank account balance.
If God never tells you to give at all, it's proof positive that you don't have a real relationship with Him. Because God always tells His children to give. The Bible says, God tested Abraham to give his only son whom he loved (Genesis 22). Our giving is a response to His love, and a demonstration of our commitment to His purpose.
Your giving in the house of God is not fraud. Its about worship. When you grow up and walk closely with God, you'll learn that your money is a tool for His glory, and not your master. Let your wealth serve God, not rule over you.
So, choose today, who will be your master—God or money? Surrender your heart to God and let Him lead your finances, your choices, and your life.
