The Bible says, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above...” (James 1:17). Every good gift. Every perfect gift. This is absolute. He left no doubt in our minds. He didn’t say “some gifts” or “most gifts”. He said every. Everything good you will ever enjoy in your life, every blessing you desire, comes from only one source—God.
What does it mean by “above”? When it said above, it was not making reference to the clouds, the sun, or any force in the universe. It said, “…from the Father of lights…” (James 1:17). Every perfect gift comes from God.
But how do you receive these gifts from God? You cannot receive anything from God without faith in His Word. You do not receive from God because you are a good person, because you have suffered, or because you want it badly. The Bible says, “…without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him” (Hebrews 11:6). Too many good people suffer because they do not have faith in God. Being good is not enough to enjoy life. All good and perfect gifts come from God, and faith is the key to receiving them.
The Bible tells us, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him” (James 1:5). God will give you anything you ask of him but notice the condition that comes with it, “…let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord” (James 1:6–7).
Did you see that? Your suffering, your tears, or how long you have waited does not move God. He is not a man who lives in the realm of pity. God already showed His pity two thousand years ago, when He sent Jesus to die for you. The Bible says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). Today, it is your faith that works. Pity does not work. Stop waiting for pity, feelings, or circumstances to change. Every good and perfect gift from God is ready for you when you believe His Word, ask in faith, refuse to doubt, and take hold of what He has promised. Nothing moves God except your faith—so believe, receive, and walk in unending victory!
