Rhema is God's word to a particular person at a particular time for a specific reason. Rhema is God's truth for you. It is not just what God said; it is what God is saying to you now. Sometime ago I was praying about something. As I was praying about the matter, God said to me, 'I will set before you an open door which no man can shut'. The moment God said it, I knew I had gotten my answer.
What God said to me was from the Bible. It is actually written in the Bible, "...I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it..." (Revelation 3:8). I had read it before. But when I read it in the Bible, I read it as Logos. The day God spoke those words to me, it became more than what was written. It became my word—what God said to me personally. I took it and started saying it every day. That is Rhema. The Bible says, "And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:" (Ephesians 6:17).
Rhema is the sword of the Spirit. Whenever you release what God has said to you about a situation, it is like a sword. It cuts like a knife. It is not just quoting what was written that works; it is speaking what has been revealed to you that works. You get Rhema from Logos. As you read the Bible, light from the Scriptures is revealed to your spirit. The Bible says, "The entrance of thy words giveth light; It giveth understanding unto the simple" (Psalm 119:130). When that light enters you, the written Word becomes personal. That revealed Word to you is your Rhema. That is your own word from God.
And when you speak what was revealed to your spirit—what is yours—sickness cannot stand it. Fear cannot stand it. Delay cannot stand it. Because now what you are speaking is a sword. The Bible says, "For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword…" (Hebrews 4:12). You can tear down anything with the sword of the Spirit.
So, do not just read the Bible casually. Read it with your spirit open. Pray before you read. Ask God to speak to you. Wait for light. When He gives you a word, hold it. Speak it. Declare it. That is how you fight. That is how you win. Move from just reading the Word to receiving your Word. Let Logos become Rhema in your life.
