You will live forever. One billion years from today, you will still be alive. You will live as long as God Almighty lives because you are a spirit, and as the Bible says, "...the spirit shall return unto God who gave it" (Ecclesiastes 12:7). You may not live forever on Earth, but your spirit will live forever - in Heaven or in Hell. If physical death were the end of life, what then would be the purpose of Heaven and Hell? The reason for Heaven and Hell is because man is not like other animals. Man is a spirit. He lives in a body, but your body is not you—it is only your house on Earth. The real you is your spirit. This is reality.
Every person will leave this world someday to either Heaven or Hell, and this is why we preach the Gospel. If there were no Hell, no Heaven, and death were the end of life, preaching the Gospel would have no relevance. Our preaching is not merely for prosperity, for a good life here, or for comfort, but for eternal salvation. Only those in Jesus have hope after death. After death, they will live again in Heaven with God, as Jesus promised, "In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also" (John 14:2–3). That hope of living again and having eternal life is not found outside of Jesus.
I feel sorry for a man or woman who is not in Jesus—whether a businessman or businesswoman—because you may live for your business, your family, or your marriage, and yet neglect your salvation. You are focusing on temporary things while ignoring the eternal. If you are not in Jesus, you have no hope after death. As the Bible warns, "And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire" (Revelation 20:15). Eternity does not mean ten billion years; eternity is far beyond human comprehension. The Scripture says, "And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal" (Matthew 25:46).
Today is your opportunity to make the right choice. Do not waste your life on things that perish. Accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, and let your spirit live for eternity. Focus on Him above all else, so that when your body leaves this world, your spirit enters eternal life in Heaven. Your decisions today will determine where you spend eternity.
