FORSAKE YOUR WORRIES

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear... - MATTHEW 6:25 NIV

Jesus, speaking about worry, said, "...do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or ... what you will wear..." (Matthew 6:25 NIV). Jesus said don't be worried about your life. Many people think God is not concerned about our daily needs, but He is. He is aware you have to pay your house rent. The God we serve is a God who feels our pain. The Bible says, "...we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities..." (Hebrews 4:15). He knows your emotional, psychological, financial, and physical pain.

He is a God who has feelings; He cares for you. The Bible says, "casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you" (1 Peter 5:7). People often think God only cares about spiritual things, but He cares about your daily needs and has already made provision for them. Your financial problems will not be solved by worrying. Those who worry cannot receive God's answers because worry is an enemy of faith. It destroys your faith. You cannot worry and have God help you at the same time; you must choose one—either for God to help you or to worry. Jesus said, "Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap...and yet your heavenly Father feeds them..." (Matthew 6:26 NIV). Notice that Jesus called Him your heavenly Father, not just "my heavenly Father". Countless birds live free of charge all over the world, and they live better lives than many people. While many don't know where their next meal is coming from, God provides for the birds.

Then Jesus asked, "...Are you not much more valuable than they?" (Matthew 6:26 NIV). You are more important than the birds, so don't worry about who will marry you, how you will get a car or money. Jesus said that is what those who don't know God are always thinking about: "...all these things do the Gentiles seek..." (Matthew 6:32). Then the verse continues "...your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things" (Matthew 6:32). What an assurance! Glory to God.

God knows your needs. However, God did not give you the work of worrying about your needs. Instead He has an assignment for you. Jesus said, "...seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you" (Matthew 6:33). Seek first the kingdom of God and the things people worry about—food, clothing, provision, opportunities, and open doors—will be added to your life by God Himself. Some worried about marriage, travelling abroad or visas, until they worried themselves right out of God's plan.

Today, make a decision to forsake worry and trust your heavenly Father. Remember, He knows what you need even before you ask Him. Simply focus on your assignment, and you will find your very needs met.

Confession & Prayer

"Dear Father, thank You because You care about every detail of my life. I refuse to live in worry or fear. I cast all my cares upon You and choose to trust You completely. Help me to focus on Your kingdom and the assignment You have given me. Strengthen my faith to believe that You know my needs and that You will provide for me in every area of my life, in Jesus' name. Amen."
