Rhema is God's word to a particular person at a particular time for a specific reason. It is God's truth specifically for you. It is not just what God said; it is what He is saying to you now.
Rhema is the sword of the Spirit. Whenever you release what God has said to you about a situation, it acts like a sword that cuts through opposition. It is not merely quoting what is written that works; it is speaking what has been revealed to you that carries power. As Christians, we live by Rhema. The Lord Jesus said, "...Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God" (Matthew 4:4). The Greek word used in the scripture for "Word" is Rhema - the living word.
You receive Rhema from Logos. Logos is the written word, what God has said. But Rhema is what God is saying now. As you read the Bible (Logos), light from the Scriptures is revealed to your spirit. As the Psalmist wrote, "The entrance of thy words giveth light..." (Psalm 119:130). When that light enters you, the written Word becomes personal. That revealed Word is your Rhema-your own direct word from God.
When you speak what has been revealed to your spirit, sickness cannot stand against it. Fear cannot stand. Delay cannot stand. This is because what you are speaking has become a sword. As the Bible says, "...the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword..." (Hebrews 4:12). You can tear down any stronghold with the sword of the Spirit.
Do not just read the Bible casually. Read it with an open spirit. Pray before you read, asking God to speak to you, and wait for that light. When He gives you a word, hold it, speak it, and declare it. That is how you fight and how you win. Move from simply reading the Word to receiving your Word. Let Logos become Rhema in your life today.
