Many people are searching for solutions to their problems in the wrong places. You might think what you need is a marriage seminar, a relationship class, or some external fix, but the truth is, that is not what will truly change your life or your marriage. What you need is a Word seminar. The Bible says, "...Scripture is inspired by God. It is useful for teaching the truth, for showing people when they are wrong, for correcting their mistakes, and for teaching them how to live right" (2 Timothy 3:16-17 SBA).

The Bible never tells you to do anything that is in you naturally to do. Scriptures are instructions for the supernatural life; they are not instructions for natural life. There is a life in Christ, and that life gives you the ability to walk in instructions that are supernatural-including in your marriage. Loving your wife and submitting to your husband is not a natural thing; it is a divine life and a fruit of that life. The instruction is clear: "Husbands, love your wives..." (Ephesians 5:25), and "Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands..." (Ephesians 5:22). These are not natural instructions. For a husband and wife who want to have a great marriage, the solution is simple: grow spiritually. If you learn the Word of God and grow to become a better Christian, you'll naturally be a better husband or wife.

Again, it's not a marriage seminar you need-you need a Word seminar. The Bible says, "But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ..." (2 Peter 3:18). The issue is growth. So grow, and you will not see problems in your marriage because there is no problem in your marriage; the only challenge is your growth. The instruction to love and submit is for Christians, not natural men. But guess what? Many Christians don't want to grow or live the Christian life, yet they want the results of submission and love. It won't work. You can't obey in your own strength. The Bible says, "...without me ye can do nothing" (John 15:5).

It's a supernatural instruction. It's for the recreated human spirit, not natural men. It's like a natural man wanting to walk on water or live above sickness. How? You can't walk in it. The natural man doesn't have the capacity, but the believer has received a new life, and that life has capacity.

So, if you want to walk in these truths, grow in grace and learn God's Word. Today, make a decision to grow. Stop looking for external solutions when the answer is spiritual growth. As you grow in grace and in the knowledge of Jesus Christ, you will become a better Christian, a better husband, and a better wife. The change you are looking for in your marriage begins with your growth in the Word.
